“People can believe whatever they want but deep down I know I\u2019ve just been doing a very good job,” Norris stated. “I\u2019ve been doing a better job than everyone else. I\u2019m very happy with that. I just need to continue to do it.”<\/p>\n
Norris has led the championship for much of the season, currently holding a 24-point lead over his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. With 58 points remaining in the final two races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, Norris is in a strong position to claim his first title. He needs to outscore his rivals by two points regardless of his finishing position, or by one point if he wins the Sunday race.<\/p>\n
Following early-season struggles with his car’s grip, Norris has found a strong streak of form, securing two wins and three podiums since the Dutch Grand Prix. He expressed satisfaction with his self-improvement throughout the season.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m getting a lot out of the car and performing consistently,” Norris said. “I feel like my confidence is very high. Because I was struggling a lot with the car and several things at the beginning of the season, it\u2019s put me into a much better position now, much later in the season. I feel like this year I\u2019ve still learned a lot in terms of how to deal with all of those things as a driver. I\u2019m happy I had all the struggles and almost got them out of the way and been able to improve.”<\/p>\n
While Piastri remains in contention, his form has dipped as Norris has improved. Piastri has a good record at the Lusail circuit and could still pose a challenge. McLaren has stated they will allow their drivers to continue racing each other.<\/p>\n
Max Verstappen, despite being far behind mid-season, has made a remarkable comeback with an upgraded car. He acknowledges needing luck but is determined to capitalize on any opportunity. Verstappen has also engaged in mind games, suggesting he would have already secured the title if he were in a McLaren.<\/p>\n
“The pressure of getting it over the line is in the back of his mind,” Verstappen commented on Norris. “When you have won four world championships already, it is amazing and I shouldn\u2019t be in the fight really but I am here.”<\/p>\n
