Michelle Monaghan, star of ‘The Family Plan 2’, stated she no longer removes her heels to match the height of shorter male co-stars.,The actress recalled instances where this was expected, but now believes the industry has improved, stating “I’m not going to take my shoes off for anybody.”Michelle Monaghan has declared she will no longer remove her heels to appear shorter than her male co-stars, a practice she says was once expected in Hollywood. The actress, who stars in the recently released Apple TV+ film ‘The Family Plan 2’ alongside Mark Wahlberg, told The Hollywood Reporter that she has moved past accommodating such requests.
Monaghan, 49, recalled a specific instance from the 2010 film ‘Somewhere,’ directed by Sofia Coppola. While filming a scene with actor Stephen Dorff, who is shorter than her, she remembered that a deliberate effort was made to adjust his height. “The only detail that I do recall from that scene is the apple box he’s standing on because he’s shorter than I am,” she shared. “It’s that classic Hollywood moment of, ‘This is an issue. You’re going to have to take off your heels.’”
However, Monaghan asserted that times have changed. “By the way, I don’t do that anymore,” she stated. “There was a period in my career where that was expected of actresses, but now I think they just know better, which is probably a good thing. I’m not going to take my shoes off for anybody — unless it’s for sound.”
‘The Family Plan 2’ sees Monaghan reprising her role as Jessica, the wife of Mark Wahlberg’s character, Dan. The sequel, released on November 21, follows the couple on an international vacation that takes a dangerous turn when a figure from Dan’s past emerges. The film was shot in London and Paris, which Monaghan cited as a significant draw for her to join the sequel.
Speaking about her working relationship with Wahlberg, Monaghan told PEOPLE that they enjoy each other’s company and are both dedicated to their craft. “We really have a nice time working with each other. We really enjoy each other’s company,” she said. “We’re both truly invested in our work respectively. And we adore our kids in the film.”
