Paul, 40, has struggled on the court this year for the Clippers, who have been hampered by perimeter injuries and are currently 5-16 on the young season, placing them among the worst teams in the Western Conference.
Paul previously played for the Clippers during their “Lob City” era from 2011-12 through 2016-17. During that time, he averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 steals across 409 regular season games. He was a six-time All-Defensive First Team selection and a five-time All-Star and All-NBA selection during his tenure with the team. He also finished in the top seven of MVP voting in five of those seasons.
While Paul later achieved deeper playoff success with the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns, reaching the Western Conference Finals and the NBA Finals respectively, he returned to Los Angeles this season on a veteran’s minimum deal to play for the Clippers. His family is based in Los Angeles, and he had previously played for the Clippers during his time at the then-Staples Center. Paul had started all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs last season.
