This is according to Fortnite design director Ted Timmins, who expressed pride in the development team’s work.
While Fortnite did not initially launch as a battle royale, its popular 100-player mode was introduced shortly after release. Timmins stated that the team set out to “take Fortnite back to its battle royale roots – where every match would feel different, to give the game a quality of life update, and respect what has made Fortnite, Fortnite.” He added, “I’m left both in awe and hugely proud of this team, and while the new chapter is only just beginning – it’s great to start it by seeing such positivity from the community.”
The latest chapter introduces several new features, including a self-revive item, the ability to be revived via Reboot Vans, and a Simple Build mechanic. To encourage active gameplay, gold bars will no longer carry over between matches, requiring players to spend them while they can. Additionally, players can now quick-scope while jumping. These changes are intended to make gameplay faster and more unpredictable, complementing the introduction of new licensed skins and an updated map.
Fortnite Chapter 7 also sees the continuation of collaborations, such as the ongoing Simpsons season. The article notes that despite the focus on battle royale elements, the game’s original mode, “Save the World,” came first.
