Miami holds four MAC Championship Game wins, tying for the second most in league history.
Western Michigan is competing for its fourth MAC title, and its first since 2016, which was also their last appearance in the conference championship. The Broncos have emerged as one of the league’s hottest teams, winning four consecutive games to reach the postseason and finishing with a MAC-best 7-1 conference record, tying for the second-most league wins in their program history.
A key storyline for Miami revolves around its quarterback situation. Starting quarterback DeQuann Finn departed the program in November after a loss to his former school, Toledo. Initially, Henry Hesson took over but was benched after throwing three interceptions against Toledo. Thomas Gotkowski then led Miami to a victory over Buffalo in Week 13 and closed the regular season with 226 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 21-point win against Ball State.
Both teams feature prominent pass rushers. Western Michigan’s defensive end Nadame Tucker leads the MAC and is tied for second nationally with 12 sacks, the most by a WMU player since 2006. He has also forced four fumbles and recorded 18.5 tackles for loss. On Miami’s defense, lineman Adam Trick has generated 63 pressures, tied for the second-most among FBS defenders, and has 8.5 sacks.
Western Michigan quarterback Broc Lowry has been a dynamic playmaker, accumulating 1,572 passing yards, 875 rushing yards, and 21 total touchdowns. He is one of only four FBS quarterbacks with at least 1,500 passing yards and 800 rushing yards this season, with his 875 rushing yards ranking fifth in the conference.
The MAC Championship Game is set to take place on Saturday, December 6, at 12 p.m. ET at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, and will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on Fubo.
