Miami had opened the scoring with an own goal from Edier Ocampo in the 18th minute, before Ali Ahmed equalized in the 60th minute. The Canadian franchise came close to taking the lead shortly after through Emmanuel Sabbi, who hit the post three times on the same play in the 62nd minute.

This marks the most significant achievement for Messi since his arrival in MLS, following their Leagues Cup triumph in 2023. It is his 13th national title, adding to the ten La Liga titles won with Barcelona and two French Championships with PSG. The 2022 World Cup winner, who recently extended his contract with Miami until 2028, is expected to be a key player in the upcoming World Cup co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada next summer.
