The reason for her departure from the project has not been disclosed. Kris Swanberg, known for ‘I Used to Go Here’, has replaced Wachowski as director. The film’s script was written by Rubey Caster and Caleb Hearon. Principal photography for ‘Trash Mountain’ began in October.

Wachowski had announced her intention to direct the movie in 2024, describing the script as “beautiful and sad and funny” and a significant representation of queer culture. The cast includes Caleb Hearon, Zooey Deschanel, Kyle Marvin, Jaboukie Young-White, Jacki Weaver, and Holmes. The film’s plot centers on a gay man in his 20s from Chicago who returns to his rural Missouri home following his father’s death. His father was an obsessive hoarder, leaving behind a house filled with possessions.

With her exit from ‘Trash Mountain’, Wachowski’s last directorial credit remains ‘Jupiter Ascending’ from 2015, which she directed with her sister Lana. Lana Wachowski later directed ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ in 2021, a franchise Lilly did not return to.
