St. Pauli, currently in 16th place after a strong start to the season, has suffered eight consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga.
“We will do everything from the stands and from the outside to ensure that on the pitch, it at least ends in a way that we don’t get run over,” Göttlich stated, referring to the match scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 PM.
Despite their current form, Göttlich hinted at a desire to cause an upset. “No team – not even us – will win big in Munich,” he said with a wink. “A lot has to come together, but we are definitely going there to say that we would like to be the surprise.”
Coach Alexander Blessin also expressed hope that Bayern might be distracted by their numerous commitments. In their last away game at the Allianz Arena in March, St. Pauli put up a good fight, losing 2-3. Their last victory against Bayern was in 2002.
