Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to launch its high-speed Flash Charging system in Europe.,The system is capable of charging compatible EVs to over 50% in under five minutes.BYD, a major Chinese automotive manufacturer, is actively working to deploy its advanced Flash Charging system across Europe. The company is reportedly hiring personnel in Europe to manage the development and implementation of this infrastructure. BYD’s Flash chargers can deliver up to 1,000 kilowatts (one megawatt) of power to compatible electric vehicles, which is double the capacity of the most powerful chargers currently available in the United States. This technology enables an EV to charge from a low battery to over 50% in under five minutes, a significant advancement in EV refueling times.
BYD has stated its intention to launch this system in Europe next year. Job postings on LinkedIn indicate that BYD is seeking individuals to oversee the deployment and operational integration of its High-Power Charging (HPC)/Flash Charging stations across various European regions. The Network Operation Center for this initiative will be based in the Netherlands.
The roles require extensive experience in the EV charging industry and battery energy storage systems (BESS), as the Flash Charging system can leverage BESS to reduce reliance on grid power. The responsibilities may include managing real estate, permitting, grid connections, and civil engineering aspects of charger buildouts.
The Flash Charging system is designed to work with BYD’s Super e-Platform, a 1,000-volt electrical architecture. While the system supports dual DC fast charging, it is not a prerequisite for Flash Charging itself. Currently, BYD Han L EV and Tang L EV models utilize this platform, with more vehicles expected.
BYD’s Executive Vice President, Stella Li, confirmed that while the chargers will be standardized and accessible to all brands, only vehicles on BYD’s Super e-Platform will achieve the fastest charging speeds. Other EVs will be limited by their own charging capabilities. Although BYD’s current European models do not fully support these speeds, new models, including those from the Denza brand launching in 2026, are expected to. BYD plans to install 300 fast chargers in the UK by the end of next year, focusing on highway locations to facilitate long-distance travel.
This move aligns with BYD’s broader international expansion strategy, which has included launching EVs in Japan and Europe, and seeing sales growth in various markets. The company is continuing its innovation in EV technology despite potential barriers to U.S. market entry.
