McCarthy has been limited in practice this week since O’Connell told reporters on Monday that he reported some symptoms on the trip back to Minnesota following their Week 12 loss at Green Bay and was evaluated further later that evening.
Sunday will mark Brosmer’s first career start and his first game action since he went 3-of-4 passing in a late relief appearance for then-Vikings starter Carson Wentz in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 23.
Brosmer set a school record with 268 completions last season at the University of Minnesota and was a well-regarded UDFA prospect following the 2025 NFL Draft. Brosmer became the No. 2 QB in Minnesota when Wentz underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in late October.
Week 13 also will mark McCarthy’s sixth missed game of the season as he previously sat out five games due to an early-season ankle injury.
